There is no doubt that God created each and every one of us with a purpose. It is also true that there are some He has called specifically into His Kingdom business.
This understanding is very crucial for anyone on the verge of navigating the marital path.
When it comes to marriage, your preparation and choice of partner really boils down to one thing: whether you are concerned about fulfilling purpose or not. If you are concerned about accomplishing your purpose, you can’t just get married to anyone. You’ll need someone who will help you in your pursuit of accomplishing purpose; not someone who will disrupt it.
This is even much more important, if your purpose is more like a kingdom assignment. If God has a kingdom assignment for you, you can’t just marry anyone. That’s because it’s a more delicate, sensitive and consequential path. You’ll need someone who is in alignment with God and the kingdom assignment He has apportioned to you.
The Bible says in Amos 3:3 (KJV), ‘Can two walk together, except they be agreed?’ The answer is No! You need to marry someone whose purpose aligns with yours. This is why it is so important that you find purpose before finding a partner. Once you locate purpose, it becomes easier to know the kind of partner you need.
And if there’s a kingdom commission involved, you know the person really has to be in alignment. Both of you will be on the journey to pursue the will of God for your lives together.
Let us consider in more details, why you really need to get it right, choosing carefully and deliberately, if you have a kingdom assignment.
I have highlighted 4 reasons below:
#1. There are Thousands to be Chased
The bible says in Joshua 23:10 KJV; ‘One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the Lord your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.’
It is clear from this scripture that God is the power behind the accomplishments of this one man. And when he becomes ‘two’ with a partner of like minds (under God), definitely they will chase thousands. And when both start having Children, they will chase more thousands together.
You see, you need to marry someone who understands this clearly so that purpose can be achieved.
First, these “two shall become one” (Matthew 19:5) that is, one in purpose, vision and pursuits. But this synergy will become much more effective when this ‘one’ is one with God as well in submission and alignment. Surely, kingdom assignment will become easier to achieve.
You need a partner who understands this, with whom you will consider your future together in God and, through His help, overcome all.
It is better to remain single and be chasing a thousand than to be married and still be chasing a thousand or less. Marriage for a person with a kingdom assignment, is an assignment itself and must be taken seriously.
#2. Godly Seeds Need to be Raised
One of the main reasons why God instituted marriage is to raise godly seeds – children who will make God proud.
Malachi 2:15 NLT says, ‘Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union’.
No one with a kingdom assignment will trivialize this understanding even if others do.
God is so much interested in children and how they are being raised.
In Psalm 127:3-5, we find one of many reminders from the Bible of how precious children are in the sight of the Lord!
As parents, our children should see God in our daily lives. We must teach them the word of God. If we as parents don’t know the scripture, how then do we pass the knowledge to our children? We have been called to raise giants for the Kingdom. Also, as one called into kingdom assignment, you will have to mentor other people’s children. So, it is important to marry someone who understands the aspect of raising children God’s way.
#3. Generations Await Godly Influence
There are generations to be influenced and set on fire, burning for God. God has called us to be kingdom influencers and generations are resting on our destiny.
There will be a lot of people looking up to you, so you need to marry well so you and your spouse can be godly role models to those God has placed (and will place) under your care and sphere of influence.
The scriptures below are wonderful pointers to this understanding.
My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. (Psalm 71:7 NLT)
This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. (Psalms 24:6 KJV)
All nations will come to your light. Mighty kings will come to see your radiance. (Isaiah 60:3 NLT)
4) Souls Abound to be Won from Darkness to Light
Indeed, there are people to be dragged from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light.
If Jesus Christ brought you out of that darkness, you must do same for other people.
And this becomes easier and more effective through the vehicle of marriage.
See the admonition in the following scriptures:
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son (Colossians 1:13 NLT)
And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. (Jude 1:22-23 NKJV)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (John 14:12 KJV)
Final Words
Do you have a kingdom assignment? Then you can’t marry just anybody. If he or she doesn’t have the Kingdom in view, forget it! Who you marry matters in this kingdom, don’t rush into marriage.
My prayer for you, is that you won’t get it wrong in your choice of partner; you won’t marry God’s enemy; you won’t waste all that God has invested in you, but you will marry according to God’s will in Jesus name. Amen.
