Your Only Wish

Sometimes,
your only wish
is not some extra bucks,
some sumptuous meal
or a day in Barbados

Sometimes,
your only wish
is that twenty-four hours
becomes twenty-five

Maybe some fellows
would lend you from theirs
Or a time-doubler
would come to your aid
Or the good Lord
will alter the seasons

But each time,
your wish returns unanswered
Because it was not meant to be

We were made
to live to the full
within the little
available.
