Five Loaves, Two Fishes

At first we wondered,
when he said,
“bring them to me”

But his words
were no humour.

Five small loaves
went beyond
five hungry men.

With every tear,
each loaf stretched out
each fish lengthened
as though power
was in every hand!

Soon, five thousand men
had their fill –
Like they rarely did.
Women and children,
thousands, satisfied
With leftovers, enough
for a dozen families

All these happened
without an iota
of our faith.

And He had shown again,
He was no mere man.
